Microsoft is starting to roll out the Windows 10 October 2020 Update.
After rolling out a first update in May this year, Microsoft is announcing the launch of the Windows 10 October 2020 update and showcasing new features and improvements to come.
A new design for the Start menu
Among the big novelties, there is a new Start menu, with a more refined design. The solid color behind the icons is removed and replaced with a more transparent background. The new look now fits the light theme as well as the dark mode. It is always possible to customize the menu color, by following the following path: Settings> Personalization> Color.
The latest version of Microsoft Edge with the new Alt + Tab function
The new version of Microsoft Edge was released in January. It will be included in this October update with the following latest news:
The Alt + Tab shortcut: the function to more easily access your desktop applications and all the tabs open on Microsoft Edge,
Improved tab view: if you pin a website to your taskbar, you can hover over the icon to see all the tabs open on that site.
Finally, Microsoft highlights collections to easily save the content that interests you on the web. A price comparison feature has been added, allowing you to compare a product saved in your collection, with other products on the web.
A custom taskbar for new PCs
Those who buy a new Windows PC will benefit from a taskbar tailored to their needs. When creating a Windows account, Microsoft will select the items to put in the users’ taskbar according to the settings defined. Microsoft is also announcing an improved taskbar to make Windows 10 easier to use on tablets.
A new option for the screen refresh rate
For PC gamers, it is now possible to more easily control the refresh rate of their screen directly in the settings. Just go to Settings> System> Display, Advanced display settings. A higher refresh rate provides smoother movement of visuals and therefore allows for a better gaming experience.
A facilitated experience for 2-in-1 devices
Users of 2-in-1 devices such as Microsoft’s Surface models will no longer get notifications asking if they want to switch to tablet mode when they unplug the keyboard from the display. This change will take place automatically.
